In an attempt to normalize the playlist output, I seem to have put myself in a predicament. Instead of randomly tossing out an 8tracks playlist of tracks from the past few weeks or months, I decided to wait until the end of the month to release a sort of "Best of" compilation. The problem is that there are so many great songs from March (and late February), so narrowing it down is hard. I got it down to 40; it's rather appropriate, as this is the 40th LetMeGet mix, but I understand that 40 songs makes for a rather unwieldy playlist. Maybe next month I'll try a mid-month playlist. Below is also a link to the songs that are on SoundCloud, so you can listen to them without having to hear the whole playlist. Don't forget to download the 8tracks and SoundCloud apps if you haven't (links are on the right side of the screen). I don't even know how to pick a favorite. Most of the stuff is from the Daily Dose or the Weekly playlists; actually, somehow "Get Lonely With Me" and "Water Fountain" never made it for some reason––both are fantastic. I've had "Glory" on near-repeat for weeks and nothing puts me in a better mood than Mayer Hawthorne's English cover of "In A Phantom Mood." Still, it's all great. Kygo, the 22-year-old norwegian producer behind the wildly successful remixes of Kyla La Grange's "Cut Your Teeth" and Seinabo Sey's "Younger," is back with a take on M83's "Wait." By employing his characteristic flutey synths and accelerating the track, he's offered a more uplifting and upbeat version of M83's atmospheric and anthemic original. Playlist: The Weekly What 3•30•14

The Weekly What: Because playlists are nice too.

Here they are, eight tracks to recap the week. It's been a while since I've released an 8tracks playlist, so be on the lookout for a March playlist in the near future. Enjoy!

I. D.C.-based producer Royal has remixed Flight Facilities's 2010 track "Crave You," speeding it up and giving it more of a dance floor feel. Download it for free via SoundCloud below.

II. Australian producer and self-proclaimed GenreKiller Ta-ku is at it again, this time taking on BANKS's fabulous "Brain." Download it for free as well.

III. Dexter Tortoriello, AKA Dawn Golden, has released the first track from his upcoming album Still Life, due out May 13 (preorder it on iTunes here). "All I Want" is distant and poignant, with its slow, pulsating synths slowly picking up speed and adding drums, but never ruining its touching and bare earnestness with too much urgency.

IV. Thanks to the efforts of The Line of Best Fit, Yumi Zouma have released a cover version of Air France's last single before their breakup two years ago, "It Feels Good to Be Around You." Ex-Air France members Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt even recorded some vocals for the new cover. Download the track for free below.

V. TDE's first non-rapping signee, the hypnotically soulful SZA, released "Childs Play" a few days ago. Tender, lazy, and softly soulful, the Chance-featuring track was produced by XXYYXX and Dae One.

VI. Swedish duo Iberia released "Swansea" as a free download a little while ago in anticipation of their debut album. A sweeping combination of celestial choirs and rattling snares make this track a must-listen.

VII. Jensen Sportag brings the funk with "One Lane Lovers," a spacey disco track out on alt-pop label Cascine.

VIII. The derevolutions, the fabulously wacky Bostonian duo, are back with "Now You Know My Name." Complete with tacky synths, lo-fi vocals, infectious whistling, and some hints of "Pascualita," the track is yet another further development of their unique style.

The Daily Dose: Pharrell - "Happy (Woodkid Sad Remix)"

Parisian Yoann Lemoine, better known as Woodkid, has done the impossible: made Pharrell's infectiously (and even overpoweringly) excited "Happy" into a more somber song (the track debuted over on Stereogum yesterday). While the lyrics of the original are nearly impossible to render sad, Woodkid's remix brings in a slightly unsettling irony, a poignancy in the strings and piano that doesn't really belong with the lyrics but nonetheless manages to slow them down and drag them into a more contemplative mood. The Daily Dose: Kyla La Grange - "The Knife"

Kyla La Grange is back––with more cutting to do. "The Knife" is the second track from La Grange's upcoming album, Cut Your Teeth, and definitely feels thematically and musically similar to the wonderfully poignant title track (whose remix by Kygo has achieved far more popularity than the original). While the steel drum vibe of "The Knife" make it a bit breezier than "Cut Your Teeth," the lyrics––"One night you cut into my head / with a cold, bright fear that struck me dead"––are even darker, even more hopelessly retrospective. The Daily Dose: PAPA - "I'm Not Sorry"

Tender Madness, last year's fabulous album from former Girls drummer Darren Weiss's band PAPA, was one of my favorites of the year. Yesterday PAPA premiered the unapologetic anthem "I'm Not Sorry," a B-side from the album, on Stereogum. While "Don't forgive me / for things I've done / I'm not sorry / for what I've become" may not be spectacularly original lyricism, here's what Weiss had to say about the song:

“This song touches on the idea that any artist has to make a lot of sacrifices to live inside of their work. A lot of people have called me insane over the last few years, but when you’re insane, you can go anywhere, you can do anything.”

The Daily Dose: Mayer Hawthorne - "In A Phantom Mood"

For Record Store Day 2014, LA-based crooner Mayer Hawthorne and Tokyo-based Shintaro Sakamoto are releasing a split 7" record with an interesting twist. Sakamoto sings the Japanese lyrics over Hawthorne's "Wine Glass Woman" and Hawthorne sings the English to Sakamoto's "In A Phantom Mood." Sakamoto's summery groove is perfect for Hawthorne's slick and laid-back vocals. Stream the track below, along with Sakamoto's version of "Wine Glass Woman."
