The Daily Dose: Adult Jazz
New music every day. "It's good for you!"

"Spook" is unlike anything I've listened to recently. Clocking in at almost ten minutes, it meanders through dissonant rhythms and spare refrains of guitar without entirely abandoning structure or progression. A strange and beautiful track that belongs in a clearing in the woods as much as it does in the lounge of an abandoned hotel, "Spook" is worth the ten minutes it takes to listen to. Seriously. Stream it below.

The Daily Dose: TĀLĀ
New music every day. "It's good for you!"

TĀLĀ, who dropped the phenomenal "The Duchess" about a month ago, is out with her debut EP of the same name. Bursting from scattered applause, "On My Own in Hua Hin" is exotic (Hua Hin is a beach resort town in Thailand), frantically percussive, and (as many have pointed out) rather Jai Paul-esque. A wonderfully vibrant bit of music from an EP that's taken us all by surprise––stream it below or pre-order the EP via iTunes here.

And We Back And We Back: Playlist: The Air I Breathe

Let Me Get Music is up and running once again! Apologies for the month-long hiatus; hopefully the smattering of SoundCloud re-posts were sufficient. Here's a behemoth of a playlist (3 hours!) of songs I've had on rotation the past month or so. Some came out weeks ago, others hours ago. I couldn't pick favorites if I had to. I love pretty much anything Twin Shadow touches and can't wait for the upcoming Antlers album, Familiars, from which the heart-rending "Hotel" is taken. I've also had Lykke Li's I Never Learn and Wye Oak's Shriek on near-repeat. For tracks not available on SoundCloud, check out the YouTube links below. I hope you enjoy! Playlist: The Weekly What 4•13•14

The Weekly What: Because playlists are nice too.

I. Twin Cities indie rock outfit Step Rockets is back with another catchy, rollicking track available for your choice of price here

II. Two days ago, universally acclaimed Disclosure released "The Mechanism," a collaboration with UK producer Friend Within. Consequence of Sound's description of it as a "pulsating bit of duba wub wub" is the probably the most accurate assessment I've read. The track gets its official release later this month on PMR Records.

III. Toronto-based Sway Clarke II, self-proclaimed fan of Game of Thrones, sex, schnitzel, Phish, and "nu metal," has released a track that initially sounds vaguely like this one. Still, the song is playful and catchy and, with the cheerful refrain of "I got love to give," it's hard not to like.

IV. I know nothing about the mysterious LA-based DESSERT other than the fact that their dog mascot is rather creepy and that they are not to be confused with this Indonesian band

V. "Sonnet" is a sparse, lovely track from Slime's recent album In The Brick House featuring Australian George Maple on vocals.

VI. Swedish musician Frida Sundemo is at it again with infectious synth-pop. It's apparently quite literally infectious, as the bio on her website states that "She is gifted with an airy voice that burrows all the way into your bones. Whether you like it or not." Creepy. Somewhat true, I suppose.

VII. London based TĀLĀ released "The Duchess" a little while ago; it's filled with synths, hypnotic vocals, and handclaps––and according to Wikipedia, tāla actually means "clap" in Sanskrit. Be on the lookout for the A-side "Serbia" to be released soon.

VIII. Brazilian musician Rodrigo Amarante is part of Los Hermanos, Orquesta Imperial, and Little Joy, but just released his first solo album, Cavalo, in Brazil last year. Whether or not you decide brush up on your Portuguese, it's being released stateside on May 6.
